With a view to their companies’ entire histories, ALBIS PLASTIC GmbH and LANXESS AG are marking 50 years of successful partnership in the field of plastics distribution. The collaborative relationship between the Hanseatic plastics distributor and compounder and the Cologne-based specialty chemicals corporation dates much further back than 2004, the year LANXESS emerged as an independent company.
In fact, the partnership began back in 1966: On May 1st of that year, a contract went into effect under which ALBIS would handle distribution for a majority of what was then Bayer’s plastics portfolio, and thus begin serving around 1,400 small customers within Germany. Among other things, the agreement included distribution of polyamide, which is still marketed under the well-known Durethan brand and represents an integral part of the ALBIS product portfolio. Pocan (PBT) joined the list in 1975. Today, 50 years later, the two companies work together all over the world. “In a global environment growing increasingly competitive for both producers and distributors, strategic partnerships are indispensable,” comments Philip Krahn, CEO of ALBIS. “So it is not without good reason that our partnership extends beyond the realm of distribution business.” Krahn’s comment alludes to the fields of license and toll compounding, which are also elements of their business relationship.
Edda Kröger, who manages the Business Unit Distribution and the Business Line Distribution Performance Polymers at ALBIS, adds, “Let’s be honest: every relationship can experience rough patches from time to time. When it happens, you have to be able to rely on one another. And when I think back to the early 2000s, or even just a few years ago, I can say with confidence that ALBIS has always proven itself a loyal and reliable partner to LANXESS—we’re very proud of our partnership.”
LANXESS is equally well aware of the companies’ excellent collaborative relationship.
As Frederique van Baarle, Head of EMEA Marketing and Sales for LANXESS’ High Performance Materials business area, notes: “Decades of experience, reliable and competent employees, team spirit and commitment are the hallmarks of our work together. We are confident about the future of our continued partnership.”
